Ingredients

  • 2 cups Hathi Brand 100% Whole Wheat Chakki Atta
  • 1 cup warm milk (or water)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
  • Extra butter for brushing.

Method

  • In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it turns frothy.
  • Add whole wheat atta and salt to a large mixing bowl. Pour in the yeast mixture and knead into a soft dough. If needed, add more warm milk or water gradually.
  • Add butter and knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for an hour or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 9 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking tray, leaving slight gaps.
  • Cover and let them rise again for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Brush with butter while warm for a soft, glossy finish.
  • Serve warm with bhaji, butter, or your favorite spread!
