Ingredients

  • 1 cup Hathi Brand 100% Whole Wheat Chakki Atta
  • ½ cup grated jaggery
  • ½ cup mashed ripe banana (optional)
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup water or coconut milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • Ghee for cooking.

Method

  • Mix grated jaggery in warm water or coconut milk in a bowl.
  • Add whole wheat atta, mashed banana, grated coconut, cardamom powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until you get a smooth, lump-free batter. The consistency should be slightly thick but pourable.
  • Heat a paniyaram pan (appe pan) and grease the cavities with ghee.
  • Pour a spoonful of batter into each cavity, filling them about ¾ full.
  • Cover and cook on low-medium heat for 2–3 minutes until bubbles appear on the surface.
  • Flip the appe using a skewer or spoon and cook for another 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Once cooked, remove, and serve warm!
