Puran Poli is a much-loved desi sweet flatbread that is highly popular and enjoyed by Indians all across the world. It is a mouthwatering delight, and the ingredients that make it so delicious are Whole Wheat Atta, Jaggery Powder, Cardamom Powder, and many more. When you try it, all you experience is a heavenly blend of taste and flavors that leave your taste buds satisfied to the core. Here, we bring you an easy recipe for Puran Poli, and you can follow it to prepare this lip-smacking dish with our 100% Whole Wheat Chakki Atta.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 ¼ Cup of Hathi Brand 100% Whole Wheat Chakki Atta 
  • ½ tbsp. Ghee

Puran Poli Filling:

  • ¾ Cup Chana Dal
  • 1 Cup Jaggery Chopped
  • ½ Tsp. Cardamom Powder
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg Powder
  • 1 Tsp. Ginger Powder
  • 1 Tsp. Fennel Powder

Method

To prepare the Dough

  • Take a bowl and put the atta and ghee.
  • Now, put in an adequate amount of water and knead a soft dough.
  • Once done, divide the dough into equal portions and keep aside.

To prepare the Puran Poli Filling:

  • Soak Chana Dal for about half an hour.
  • Once done, drain it well and set aside.
  • Now, take a deep pan and add the Chana Dal and some water.
  • Let it cook for about twenty minutes, drain it and keep aside.
  • Now, add the Chana Dal, chopped Jaggery, Nutmeg Powder, Cardamom Powder, Fennel Powder, and Ginger Powder in a deep pan and keep the flame on medium level.
  • Cook for about five to eight minutes until the Jaggery completely melts.
  • Make sure you keep stirring and mash at regular intervals.
  • Let it cool down, divide it into equal portions, and keep it aside.

To prepare Puran Poli:

  • First, roll out a portion of the dough into a circle.
  • You can use a little bit of the Whole Wheat Flour for rolling.
  • Once done, place one portion of the filling at the center of the rolled-out dough.
  • Fold the edges of the dough over the applied filling and pinch the sides to seal it.
  • Now, you need to ensure flattening the dough and rolling it out into a circle again.
  • Take a tawa or a griddle and heat some ghee on medium flame. 
  • Once heated, cook both sides of the Puran Poli until golden brown. 
  • Repeat the similar process with the rest of the dough and filling portions to make some more Puran Polis.
  • Finally, add a little ghee to the Puran Polis and serve hot.
